Title: Women taking all the kids for a swim down the river
Here all the ‘kitji’ (kids) are swimming down the river. Some rode their donkey’s to the river but others came with their Mothers in the Toyota. All the birds are there looking for water. The Emu’s got frightened with all the kids swimming in the water and one ran away. Only Kungka’s (women) take the kids to the river for picnic. No men there.

Marie Shilling has lived in and around the Titjikala region for most of her life and commenced painting in 2002.
Marie is known for her naive style of work that provides a unique cultural and historical perspective of Aboriginal life in Central Australia.
Marie’s representations are inspired by her immediate environment characterized by red sand hills, desert oaks and rocky ridges. She utilises a full colour palette with lively hues of violet, blue and yellow, capturing the broad range of brilliant colours reflected by the land, its’ seasons and the local flora and fauna.
In addition to painting, Marie also works with ceramics, etchings, batik, and carves intricate punu from local mulga trees.
