Here all the ‘kitji’ (kids) are swimming down the river with their Mothers and Aunties. Only Kungka’s (women) take the kids to the river for picnic. No men there.

Marie Shilling has lived in and around the Titjikala region for most of her life and commenced painting in 2002. Marie is known for her naïve style of work that provides a unique cultural and historical perspective of Aboriginal life in Central Australia. Marie’s representations are inspired by her immediate environment characterized by red sand hills, desert oaks and rocky ridges.
